Sorry readers. I went MIA last week. Having a 7-month-old is a lot of work. But what a performance by the U to inject itself into the National Championship picture!
Who would have thought the ACC could have two CFP teams this year? Right now, Miami and Clemson are there. The only feasible scenario of them staying in the Top 4 is if the Tigers beat the Canes in the ACC Championship Game (assuming both teams win out in the regular season, of course). This should be the most hyped, anticipated ACCCG I can remember. At least it should feature the two highest ranked teams to face off in the game’s history.
Week 12 won’t be as exciting. Nine games, but most are shit. Enjoy!
Virginia @ #3 Miami
Hard Rock Stadium — Miami Gardens, FL — 12:00pm (ABC)
Spread: Miami -19.5
Now begins the critical two-week stretch of Miami not buying into its own hype and peeing all over itself in games where it will be a heavy favorite. Virginia is up first. The bowl-eligible Hoos are probably the biggest surprise the league this season, but they’ve been inconsistent since a 5-1 start and didn’t look good against mediocre Louisville. I think the Hurricanes come out swinging and bury UVA early.
Delaware State @ Florida State
Doak Campbell Stadium — Tallahassee, FL — 12:00pm (ACC Network)
FSU isn’t any good, but they won’t be challenged by Delaware State.
The Citadel @ #2 Clemson
Clemson Memorial Stadium — Clemson, SC — 12:20pm (ACC Network)
Unlike FSU, Clemson is good. They won’t be challenged by The Citadel.
Pittsburgh @ Virginia Tech
Lane Stadium — Blacksburg, VA — 12:20pm (ACC Network)
Spread: Virginia Tech -15.5
Two teams going in the wrong direction. No one had been more high on the Hokies than me, but I have to admit they ain’t that good. They’re coming off back to back losses to Miami and Georgia Tech. Pitt lost to UNC. Pitt is fighting for bowl eligibility, though, so maybe they come out with some fire. I still like VT in this game.
Western Carolina @ North Carolina
Kenan Stadium — Chapel Hill, NC — 3:00pm (ACC Network)
Will the Heels win two in a row? Yes.
Georgia Tech @ Duke
Wallace Wade Stadium — Durham, NC — 3:30pm (ACC Network)
Spread: Georgia Tech -6.5
Duke has to pull an inside straight to get to a bowl with wins over Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. No easy task. GT has been frustrating and inconsistent, but I haven’t been overly impressed with Duke since they got off to that fast start. Jackets win a close one.
Syracuse at Louisville
Papa John’s Stadium — Louisville, KY — 3:30pm (ESPNU)
Spread: Louisville -13
Syracuse hasn’t won since upsetting Clemson, and they blew a 41-27 lead against Wake last weekend and ended up losing 64-43. If you give up almost 500 yards to John Wolford (no offense), you’re ****ed against Lamar Jackson. Louisville’s defense is terrible, but obviously Cuse’s is as well. The Cards will snuff out any Orange bowl hopes.
UConn vs. Boston College
Fenway Park — Boston, MA — 6:00pm (CBSSN)
Spread: BC -21.5
BC let a winnable game slip away against NC State. Would have been huge for Steve Addazio to get a win against a ranked opponent. Losing starting QB Anthony Brown for the season didn’t help. Fortunately for the Eagles, they get crappy UConn at Fenway Pahhhhk in order to get bowl eligible. If they somehow manage to lose this game — which will be UConn’s Super Bowl — #FireAddazio.
#19 NC State @ Wake Forest
BB&T Field — Winston-Salem, NC — 7:30pm (ESPNU)
Spread: Wake -1.5
If you asked a State fan which game against a non-ranked opponent they were most worried about at the beginning of the season, I bet a lot of them said Wake. Winston has not been very hospitable to the Wolfpack over the years, and Wake is sneaky. I was unimpressed with State last week and I think Wake has their number. Deacs in a squeaker.
