Well, here we are.
#3 seeded North Carolina FC travels to San Francisco to play the #2 seeded Deltas in a huge playoff matchup. Although the Deltas have not lost to NCFC all year, NCFC is currently on a 12 game unbeaten run. On the flip side, the Deltas had their 10 game unbeaten streak ended on Sunday against the Armada. At home, as well. Hope springs eternal!
Either way, this has been a wild rollercoaster of a season. The thought of making the playoffs looked grim earlier in the season when NCFC went on a disastrous run of form at the end of the Spring Season. Even with a slow start to the Fall campaign, the team managed to band together and grind out this amazing run of games. It also helped that head coach Colin Clarke finally found the right personnel for the lineup.
It has to be said that this is also a huge match for the Deltas. Depending on other results, this could be the last game that they ever play in front of a home crowd. If NCFC wins, it will be the last time that the Deltas will ever play in general. Apparently people in San Francisco don’t like soccer so the team is closing up shop after one season. So there’s that extra factor in the match.
Predicted Outcome: Honestly, I think this is a really tough game for me to predict. I think both teams match up well to each other, as evidenced in the two draws this Fall Season. I think this will go to extra time, maybe even penalties. I’m not hopping off the NCFC hype train, though.
Song of the Week:
