It’s been awhile so let me get you caught up since my last post before training camp.
Training camp and pre-season activities wrapped up with no significant injuries or major transactions being made. However, there were some surprising roster moves by the Panthers in cutting back-up QB Joe Webb and replacing him with rookie QB Brad Kaaya. Bye Felisha! Fun fact about Brad Kaaya, his mom Angela Meas Kaaya was Felisha in the 1995 cult classic Friday. Also, the Panthers decided to keep two kickers on the active 53-man roster in both Graham Gano and Harrison Butker.
Here are some of the other roster moves by the Panthers:
Waived: QB Joe Webb, LB Ben Boulware, P Andy Lee, WR Austin Duke, OL Blaine Clausell, LB Zeek Bigger, RB Jalen Simmons, DE Larry Webster, DT Toby Johnson, TE Eric Wallace, CB Jeff Richards, TE Bryce Williams, CB Devonte Johnson, DT Gabriel Mass, DE Arthur Miley, C Brian Folkerts, DT Connor Wujciak, FB Darrel Young, WR Trevor Graham
Injured Reserve: WR Brenton Bersin, CB Corn Elder, T Dan France, C Gino Gradkowski, DT Drew Iddings, WR Charles Johnson, S L.J. McCray, WR Fred Ross, CB Zack Sanchez, G Chris Scott, TE Scott Simonson, CB Teddy Williams, G David Yanky
Practice Squad: FB Alex Armah, T Blain Clausell, DE Bryan Cox, DT Eric Crume, WR Mose Frazier, WR Keyarris Garret, QB Garret Gilbert, DE Zach Moore, DE Efe Odaba, S Damian Parms, S Dezman Southward
Carolina Panthers vs San Francisco 49ers
When: September 10th 4:25pm EDT
Where: Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California
This is what Panthers fans have been waiting for since the end of the dreadful 2016 campaign: 2017 season opener! Now if this was 2013 the Panthers might have something to worry about, but it ain’t. It’s 2017 and the 49ers are poised to be one of the worst teams in the NFL. The spread is listed at -5.5 for the Panthers but it’s Carolina by 1,000!
Keys For The 49ers:
The 49ers will need to have Carlos Hyde gain over 100+ yards rushing and 2+ TDs, and Bryan Hoyer will have the best game of his 31 year-old existence. All of this is highly unlikely.
Keys For The Panthers:
The Panthers have built what could be considered the most experienced and deep defensive squad in franchise history. The front seven of the Panthers might be the best in the league and this could easily be the best defense in football.
Then there’s the high powered offense, with an improved offensive line and a rejuvenated running game. I see the Panthers man-handling the 49ers defense and winning by more than two scores. It’ll be fun to watch Christian McCaffrey go up against his former college roommate Solomon Thomas and former babysitter Kyle Shanahan on Sunday, but the 49ers will be no match for the Carolina Panthers. I see the Panthers scoring at least 30 points for the second consecutive year against the Niners.
