Courage Impress in Home Debut and NCFC Drops 2 Points
The Courage made their North Carolina debut Saturday with a huge 1-0 win over Meghan Klingenberg’s Portland Thorns (Tobin Heath was hurt). Sahlen’s Stadium at Wake Med Soccer Park formerly presented by SAS was buzzing with about 6,300 fans in the house.
Courage put the pressure on early and often, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Sam Mewis missed on a PK attempt in the 74th minute, but in the 80th, Jessica McDonald made a nice run down the line and played a great ball to everyone’s favorite Brazilian, Debinha (eat it, Marta), for a beautiful heading finish. In terms of both play and support, you couldn’t ask for a better inaugural home opener.

Next up, the ladies play host to Marta and the Orlando Pride.
North Carolina FC
On the men’s side, NCFC saw 3 points slip to one by allowing a late LATE goal in the 5th minute of extra time Saturday night in Miami. Lance Laing again came up big and Brian Sylvestre was awesome between the pipes, but man does this one sting. You’ll always take a point on the road, but you can’t help but feel cheated on this one.
Next up, NCFC travels to beautiful Puerto Rico for another chance to get a much needed road dub.
