Canes vs Red Wings Part Deux

Another game, more points. Raleigh’s hockey club extended their point streak to a franchise record tying 12 games, but will continue to need help from other teams to close the gap on the final playoff spot.  Boston was able to grab the victory against Nashville and the Canes still sit four points back with one game in hand.

Details. Details.

A night removed from an emotional OT loss, the Canes took advantage of an exhausted Detroit team by dominating all facets of puck. The goals were tallied by Lee Stempniak, Joakin Nordstrom, Jordan Staal, and Elias Lindholm. Cam Ward played solid in net (19 for 20) and came up with a big save against Henrick Zetterberg.

It’s been said a lot over this streak, but this is what it finally feels like to have a hockey team that executes on all ends! It feels pretty good.

Play Of The Game: At the end of the game, Brett Pesce gets his stick on the puck that allows Derek Ryan to draw the penalty. This sets-up Lindholm’s PP goal and eliminates any hope for the Red Wings.

Goal Of The Game: Lee Stempniak

Enemy Of The City: Boston Bruins

Step aside Gabriel Farfan. I know the Raleigh area has been the tax beneficiary of many Ex-Boston people, but now you live in Raleigh City. So, no apologies.

What’s Next?:  Canes stay in the friendly confines of Raleigh and wait for the Blue Jackets to come into town on Thursday. The Hurricanes improve to 34-27-14 (82 pts). No scoreboard watching tomorrow, but all the enemies (Bruins, Islanders, & Lightning) are back in action on Thursday.
