What a bizarre game. Despite Cam Ward’s best efforts, the Canes were able to take the victory in Brooklyn 8-4. This game was reminiscent of the goal scoring that used to occur in my house when I played NHL 97 (John Vanbiesbrouck Cover). In the beginning, the game had all the feels of a typical Canes loss but the bad feels were quickly washed away.
Jeff Skinner and Justin Faulk each had two goals and Jaccob Slavin sealed it up with a hat trick. Cam Ward didn’t look particularly sharp, but he was bailed out by five goals from his defensemen. Never great to get all that offense from our defense but we’ll take any enjoyment we can at this point.
Storm Category: Lets give it a 3 rating. Defeated a hot team, but typical goal troubles out of the South and North creases.
Goal Of The Game: Jaccob Slavin Hat Trick Goal
Enemy Of The City: Jim Boeheim
Jim made fun of a city in North Carolina, so until something more egregious occurs he’ll stay in the enemy category. Although, I’m feeling Cal Clutterbuck might take this spot tomorrow night.
What’s Next?: The Canes improve to 28-27-11 on the season and continue to be roughly ten points out of the playoffs. Raleigh’s team returns to the ice at the PNC Arena tomorrow night to face the Islanders again.
