Coach Bill Peters sent a message before the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets by sitting Noah Hanifin and third leading scorer Tuevo Teravainen as healthy scratches. Initially, it didn’t have an impact as the Canes trailed 0-2 after the first period. In the second period, Carolina got it going by tying it up with goals from Sebastian Aho and Justin Faulk. However, Carolina’s lack of quality backup goaltending combined with a disorganized offense the last five minutes lead to a 3-2 loss in Columbus.
Carolina played strong overall by battling back from the early deficit to tie the game. They held the Jackets to only 20 shots on the game but three of those hit the back of the net. A .850 save percentage isn’t going to cut it from back up goalie Michael Leighton. Cam Ward is starting to show fatigue so the need for Eddie Lack to come back from concussion and play solid hockey is needed.
Storm Category: Category 2 Hurricane. The ability to come back from being down early got them a somewhat fierce rating.
Goal Of The Game: Justin Faulk
Faulk has started finding his groove and shows why he is our All-Star. Oh and free queso at Moe’s
What’s Next?: Carolina travels to Washington for a Monday puck drop. The Canes fall to 21-18-7 and sit two points behind the surging Toronto Maple Leafs for the final playoff spot. Now that the losses are out of the way…let’s get a win boys.
