RECAP: State Falls To Wake

The Wolfpack shot over 50% from the field but turnovers, poor free throw shooting and the typical porous defense were just too much to overcome and the Pack fall to Wake Forest 93-88. Add in some highly questionable calls by official Jamie Luckie ( more on this later) and now the season looks to be in jeopardy as they fall to 2-5 in ACC play.

Abdul-Malik Abu finally got his NBA range shot going to lead the way with 20 pts (17 in the 1st half). Dennis Smith had another poor shooting night but was able to contribute 15 points and a monster 13 assists. The Pack still look lost on the defensive end and may need to take advantage of their athleticism and start playing man over whatever zone they play. I think it’s safe to say Mark Gottfried seat is officially ‘hot’ in the eyes of the fan base. At a certain point the product we are seeing can be directly attributed to the program’s environment.

Jamie Luckie

Listen I’m not one to blame a game on the refs. NC State did enough with the turnovers and lack of free throws to lose the game. BUT one can’t ignore the four or so terrible calls by Jamie Luckie and his buddies towards the end of the game. By my count it cost seven points inside the final three minutes…how much did Wake win by? Five points? Oh…yea can’t ignore the bad officiating. Let take a look:

Ruled Not a Foul

Ruled Out of Bounds

Players of The Game: John Collins and Keyshawn Woods of Wake Forest

Wake played well  and hit their free throws and that’s why they won.

What’s Next?: NC State falls to 13-7 (ACC 2-5) and travels to Duke on Monday to battle the Blue Devils. The Pack has lost four games to teams they should  have beat and now must pick up wins against tough opponents. Here’s  to turning it around!
