After announcing that they had let go six players earlier this week, NCFC decided to end the week on a high and announce a new signing. Midfielder Marcel Kandziora signs for the club after apparently impressing on trial last summer. The club did not release any transactional details, but according to transfermarkt, Kandziora has signed an 18 month contract after being released by his former club VfL Osnabrück this past summer.

Kandziora came through the ranks of the Borussia Dortmund academy and had stints with SV Sandhausen and FSV Frankfurt before his last stop at Osnabrück in the German third division. He operates mainly as a left midfielder but can play multiple positions according to NCFC Head Coach Colin Clarke. He will join a midfield group of Tiyi Shipalane, Nazmi Albadawi (currently hanging out in Croatia), Matt Watson, and James Marcelin.
NC Courage also joined in on the fun today and announced they acquired Samantha Witteman in a trade with the Orlando Pride. Defender Alanna Kennedy will be going the other way in exchange.

Witteman was drafted last year by the Pride and played in 16 games. Although considered an attacker, in her senior year of college she actually started at least once in seven different positions. She is currently a member of the U-23 Women’s National Team and she will fit right in with a squad that boasts multiple internationals.
The departure of Kennedy will actually free up an international spot in the roster, according to head coach Paul Riley. Hopefully this means that the Courage can go for a marquee international star. I was hoping that they would make a move for former Tarheel Heather O’Reilly but she signed for Arsenal Ladies earlier this week.
Either way Raleigh City Sports is anxious for both teams to add more players and get this season under way.
