State traveled to Boston College Wednesday night to make good following a disastrous performance last weekend at UNC. I think G-Man (Duke great Mike Gminski) summed it up nicely when he said this game had a “summer league” feel. He was being generous. The fightin’ Jesuit Eagles were just too much for the Wolfpack leading to a 74-66 loss.
I was really hoping to see the Pack come out with a bit of an edge, get in transition, hustle and play a complete game and I saw that – just not from the Pack. The lack of cohesion continues to show and I know it’s early but this season already has shades of previous underachieving Wolfpack squads (Gavin Grant’s ‘07-08 team and Lo Brown’s ’12-13 team). On the flip side, let’s give Jimmy Christian and the BC Eagles some cred. With solid, young NC talent they’re a piece or two away from being a really good ball club.
Player(s) of the Game: Ky Bowman & Jerome Robinson
You remember that young NC talent I just talked about? (They play for BC) These two made play after play. And pardon the clichés, but they showed the grit and hunger our guards sorely lacked tonight.
What’s Next: The Wolfpack (12-5) head back to PNC to face Georgia Tech (9-6) in what essentially becomes an early must win.
Sidebar: I’m sure Heath Schroyer is a good recruiter and the mastermind behind our vaunted amoeba defense (sarcasm) but someone needs get that man a tie. This all black, open-collar look reminds me of my 9th grade basketball coach (in PA) with supposed mafia ties. Look the part, bro.
