STORM WARNING: SEBASTIAN AHO
The 19-year-old Finnish phenom’s 10th goal of the season was the difference maker in OT, as the ‘Canes defeated the Boston Bruins 4-3. The victory also gives Carolina the season series win over the Bs, 2 games to 1. Yeah baby.
Cliff Notes: This was a great home win. Despite Boston jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first frame — a Tim Schaller backhander set up by a Cam Ward turnover compliments of Riley Nash — the #Redvolution came roaring back. The Carolina offense cranked up the second, with Aho and Derek Ryan both finding the net. That set the table for a crazy third.
Ward was understandably pissed off after David Backes knocked in a Kevan Miller rebound with at 5:49. Jay McClement put the ‘Canes back out front, but Brad Marchand answered 23 seconds later. Aho’s game-winner came at 1:34 in OT.
Storm Category: Category 4. This team is learning how to take a punch from a good team and fight back. I love how they kept responding in this one.
Cane of the Game: Who do you think? Aho is a star in the making.
What’s Next?: The Blue Jackets did us a solid and conveniently disposed of the Flyers in OT, narrowing the gap between the Hurricanes and the final Wild Card spot to 5 points. Our record improves to 18-15-7 (43 points).
Speaking of Columbus, they’re what’s next. The NHL’s top team travels to PNC Arena Tuesday. Raleigh City Sports will be there in force!
What the hell is a Blue Jacket anyway?
