Virginia Tech came into the game thinking they’ve finally arrived in the world of ACC basketball after knocking off Duke on Saturday. Well State put em through a real BUZZsaw by dropping the Hokies 104-78. Except for a few spurts by Va Tech, the game was fully controlled by NC State from the tip. Dennis Smith Jr. (27 pts, 11 A, 11 R) had only the second triple double in team history (Julius Hodge 2002) and Abdul-Malik Abu added 20 points and 11 boards. I sat next to an NBA scout during the game and here’s a little inside information: I think he likes everybody! He had like half the roster circled in his program and showed no emotions so I couldn’t tell what the ‘circles’ meant. I will say I think I saw a positive smirk on his face after a nice play (dunk) Abu made in the first half.

Play Of The Game:

I’d give it to BeeJay Anya for a play where he dribbled the ball for like 10 seconds and then scored but I can’t find it anywhere (Need to hire a video guy). So I guess this will do:

Player Of The Game: Dennis Smith Jr.

It’s tough to argue with the stat line. Also, J Cole was going crazy on the sideline when the triple double was put up on the video board.

Villain Of The Game: Buzz Williams

This was my first time seeing this guy in person and he’s quite interesting. He looks like a baby dressed up in a suit whose legs are made of short skinny pieces of word. A bit of a whiner too. I can go awhile without seeing him again.

Whats Next?

NC State improves to 12-3 and travels to Chapel Hill on Saturday to play UNC (13-3). It’ll be interesting if the Wolfpack can keep up the hot shooting and the dominance on the glass. The team that showed up against Va Tech is the team we all expected: explosive offense when it gets going and just enough defense to win.

  1. Hey! This is kind of off topic but I need some advice from an established blog. Is it very difficult to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty fast. I’m thinking about creating my own but I’m not sure where to begin. Do you have any points or suggestions? Cheers
