Minting Money- New Years Weekend Picks Edition

Each week our resident gambling degenerate will select his best lock, surprise, and over/under bets in weekend action across a number of leagues.  Get a second-mortgage, pawn your Pogs collection, or get a payday loan- just go place these bets immediately!

As the holidays near an end, 2017 will be brought in by a slate of fantastic matchups across all leagues.  With very few NFL games mattering this week, and for the sake of diversification, put your Christmas bonus to work across all of the following events:

Friday UFC: Amanda Nunes BEATS Ronda Rousey

The weekend kicks off with this Friday night fight, marking Rousey’s return after more than a year’s hiatus from professional fighting.  I know very little about UFC to base this pick on, but I firmly believe that athlete’s lose their edge once they go “Hollywood”.  She’s been in way too many movies recently, and Entourage was absolutely terrible, so I’ll throw a couple dollars at the Brazilian MMA fighter for that reason alone.

Saturday EPL:  Leicester City/ West Ham OVER 2.5 Goals

Swansea/ Bournemouth OVER 2.5 Goals

I’ve been betting the goals over on both Swansea and West Ham for a couple weeks now and it’s been hitting every time.  In the game at King Power Stadium, West Ham has been on a run of good form (winning three on the bounce) while Leicester seems to only perform well against good teams or teams in good form.  In Wales’ Liberty Stadium, the Swans are in a manager search after unbelievably sacking Bob Bradley after a dozen games- look for a shootout against a Bournemouth side that has also been conceding 3 per game in the last month.

Saturday College: Washington/ Alabama OVER 53 points

While I fully expect Alabama to roll, Washington can actually light it up offensively and Jake Browning will have something to prove after finishing 6th in Heisman voting.  Even though Alabama is known to be a lockdown defense, their games finished with higher points totals than this more often than not this year.  Defensive touchdowns count just the same….and 53 is not actually a whole lot of points in the college game.

Sunday Night NFL: Detroit +3.5 (against Green Bay Packers)

This is the marquee NFL matchup of the weekend, with the winner going to the playoffs and the loser likely watching them from home.  While I can see the Pack winning this one, the line seems off- it’s in Detroit and both teams are equally bad at defense.  Something tells me fair-weather bettors have moved this line in the Packers favor, and a Lions pick gives you the out of Detroit winning OR losing by a field goal, which I will take all day.  Of course, last time these teams played in Motown, this happened (Can’t embed by the NFL sucks)…..

And Green Bay won by 4…..
Have a Happy New Year and I’ll be back in 2017, ready to sling dollars.
