Each week our resident gambling degenerate will select his best lock, longshot, and over/under bets in weekend action across a number of leagues. Get a second-mortgage, pawn your Pogs collection, or get a payday loan- just go place these bets immediately!
This weekend’s east coast cold front will be confronted by some fiery offenses, resulting in a scoring explosion both here and abroad. This week we look at the best NFL and English Premier League action on the boards:
Lock: Redskins (-1) over Eagles
Fresh off a heartbreak loss to the Cardinals, Kirk Cousins’ tribe takes the trip up I-95 with major playoff implications on the line. Look for the Redskins to dominate on both sides of the ball against an Eagles team that is flying to new lows every week now.
Longshot: Browns over Bengals (+190 Payoff)
Who would be crazy enough to suggest betting on an 0-12 team to win? Admittedly, I would have guessed the payoff here to be much higher, but with RG3 back at the helm on a snowy Cleveland day the Browns are set to surprise this weekend against the toothless Bengals. If you want to go in the complete opposite direction, Vegas is also offering +105 on the Browns going 0-16.
Over/Under: Chargers at Panthers Over 48.5 Points
For the second straight week, a former NC State QB will torch the Panthers sketchy secondary, with Melvin Gordon doing even more damage on the ground if Luke Kuechly can’t go this week. Assuming Newton doesn’t sit out the first series, expect him and the offense to bounce back in this Charlotte Shootout.
Lock: Manchester City (-1/2) over Leicester City
Were it not for Sergio Aguero’s judo-kick and Fernandinho’s Latrell Sprewell impression in the 97th minute last week (both resulting in red cards and multi-game suspensions), this line would be at least 2 goals. Expect Man City to bounce back after their Chelsea loss last week against the rudderless defending English Champions, that obviously only care about Champions League this year. Futures prediction: Leicester wins the Champions League, but gets relegated this year.
Longshot: West Bromwich Albion over Chelsea (+1000 payoff)
Chelsea is riding an 8-game EPL winning streak, but West Brom is actually playing some good soccer, sit 7th in the table and are the type team that Antonio Conte’s side might struggle breaking down. The Sunday pies will be weighing down Diego Costa in this noon game in London, expect a low-scoring affair- I actually like the +475 tie on the three-way moneyline more than the +1000 WBA win, but 10-1 odds are always fun to root for.
Over/Under: Liverpool/ West Ham OVER 3.5 Goals
The Reds return to Anfield with something to prove after their 4-3 shock loss at Bournemouth last week, while West Ham has decided not to play defense this year (2nd-most goals conceded) and are coming off a 5-1 home loss to Arsenal. Look for an early goal that smashes this game wide open- Liverpool will get at least 3 of their own, and Andy Carroll is a lock to bang a header home against his former team.
